To the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission, My name in Don Davis. I am a resident of Meridian residing in Bainbridge, right behind Costco. I am writing to express my concerns about In & Out Burger's request to purchase the land at Ten Mile and Lost Rapids. While I am a big fan of In & Out Burger, I do NOT want one at the entrance to my neighborhood. We have already seen a huge increase in traffic at the entrance to our neighborhood due to the poor decision to let Costco build a warehouse there AND to put an entry/exit to Lost Rapids. Putting an incredibly popular restaurant at the corner is only going to exacerbate this issue. It is a major inconvenience to the residents in our neighborhood, and it is a safety hazard. I am a cyclist, and I have found that the least dangerous route out of our neighborhood is to cross Ten Mile on Lost Rapids and ride through Lochsa Falls to Linder, which has a good bike lane that you can take north for several miles and escape the busyness of Meridian. However, since Costco opened, I have had numerous close calls with cars coming out of the business area onto Lost Rapids and not seeing me (though I wear bright colors, and I am always in the bike lane). Additionally, I understand that In & Out Wants to be open until 2 AM. That may be fine in a business park, but not in a residential area. Do any of you want a business in your neighborhood attracting traffic and crowds until 2 AM? I doubt it. I am excited to have an In & Out Burger in Meridian. But I do not want it next door to me. There are plenty of options down Ten Mile or even out by Highway 16 that could accommodate the traffic and crowds more easily and safely.
