Dear Committee Members,
Our names are Priscilla & David Boughton, and we reside at 5740 N Asissi Way, in the Bainbridge
Subdivision. We are writing as concerned homeowners and community members regarding the proposal
being presented by In & Out (I&O)
We acknowledge and appreciate the independent studies that I&O) provided with their submission, but
they are flawed. Costco is an amazing neighbor! They listened to our concerns. They understood the
awkward nuances of moving close to residential communities, and were respectful of us, not only as
homeowners, but as individuals. They agreed to many concessions to coincide with their already family-
friendly hours of operation, to include low voltage security lighting, and modified delivery hours between
6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
I&O studies appear to be nothing more than "boiler plate" from their California locations with one big
difference - NONE OF THOSE LOCATIONS ARE IN RESIDENTIAL, OR SEMI-RESIDENTIAL AREAS.
Further, the traffic study was done in December, for three days, which is ridiculous!
As Meridian committee members, I expect that you have attended church at Lost Rapids and Ten Mile or
Chinden and Black Cat; that you have attended an event at Hero's Park, Keith Bird Park, or shopped at
Costco. During peak hours, I have set through 5 or 6 light cycles to turn left from Chinden onto Ten
Mile. Plus, you approved Fast Eddy's at the intersection of 10-Mile and Chinden, producing even greater
volumes and changes in the traffic flow. Last, but certainly not least is the increase in traffic volumes we
will see on Chinden as a result of the Highway 16 project.
I&O has a "cult" following that does not always play nice (look at the Village and Towne Center
locations). They don't care if they block a driveway, intersection, or that we cannot even get to our
homes. It's all about their love of a mediocre burger. We cannot even wrap our brain around the mess
that additional traffic volume will create. I&O can throw a stone any direction, and within a mile find far
more suitable locations. Based on their desire to be "here" that mentality is in direct conflict with the
environment the community has created. We do care about our neighbors. We do care about
safety. We do care about the right to peaceful enjoyment. We do care about our home values. Any new
business that thinks it is sufficient to submit a flawed, boiler-plate submission, does not care about any
of those things. This is just another profit center for them. Nothing more. Conversely, this is our home.
In closing, you must consider the traffic dangers. We already know that a red light means another 4 cars
can go through an intersection. We all know that a stop sign is merely a suggestion. By approving this
location at Lost Rapids and Ten Mile, you are adding to an already dangerous environment. You have a
responsibility to the community, which we hope you do not take lightly.
