Dear Meridian City Council Members,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my strong opposition to the conditional use
permit for the proposed In-N-Out Burger location at the northwest corner of Ten Mile and Lost Rapids,
adjacent to Costco and Olivia Townhomes.
As a resident of Meridian, I have several concerns regarding this development:
1. Traffic Congestion: The addition of an In-N-Out Burger at this location will significantly increase
traffic in an already busy area. The intersection of Ten Mile and Lost Rapids is frequently
congested, and the presence of Costco further exacerbates this issue. Increased traffic could
lead to safety hazards for both drivers and pedestrians.
2. Noise Pollution: Fast-food restaurants typically generate considerable noise, both from the
establishment itself and from the increased vehicular traffic. This noise pollution will negatively
impact the quality of life for residents of Olivia Townhomes and other nearby neighborhoods.
3. Environmental Impact: The construction and operation of a new fast-food restaurant will have
environmental consequences, including increased waste and potential harm to local wildlife. We
should prioritize developments that align with our community's sustainability goals.
4. Community Character: The introduction of a high-traffic fast-food restaurant in this area may
detract from the character and appeal of our community. We should focus on developments that
enhance the local atmosphere and support small businesses.
5. Property Values: The presence of a fast-food restaurant can negatively impact property values in
the surrounding area. Residents of Olivia Townhomes and nearby neighborhoods may see a
decline in their property values, which is a significant concern for homeowners.
I urge the City Council to consider these concerns and block the conditional use permit for In-N-Out
Burger at this location. Our community deserves thoughtful and sustainable development that prioritizes
the well-being of its residents.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Kelly O'Callaghan
