Sunny Cove Ln Meridian, Idaho 83714 doreenlaren@gmail.com (208) 296-9607 March 14, 2025 City of Meridian 33 E. Broadway Avenue Meridian, ID 83642 Dear City of Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed development of an In-N-Out Burger at the corner of Ten Mile Road and Lost Rapids Drive, referenced as H-2024-0058 In-N-Out Burger at Ten Mile - CUP. As a concerned resident of this community, I have observed a significant number of accidents occurring at this intersection. The addition of an In-N-Out Burger at this location would only exacerbate the traffic congestion and increase the risk of accidents. This area is already under considerable pressure, and the introduction of a high-traffic business would further compromise the safety of drivers and pedestrians. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), intersections are a major concern for traffic safety, with roughly one-quarter of traffic fatalities and about one-half of all traffic injuries in the United States attributed to intersections. This highlights the inherent dangers of intersections, and adding more traffic to an already problematic area would only increase the likelihood of accidents. I have spoken with a Meridian police officer who also expressed concerns about the proposed location. The officer highlighted the existing traffic issues and shared my apprehension about the potential for increased accidents. Furthermore, there are two parks in close proximity to the proposed site, which means there are many children in the area who frequently ride their bicycles. The increased traffic from the In-N-Out Burger would pose a serious threat to their safety. 1 In light of these concerns, I urge the Planning and Zoning Commission to reconsider the approval of this development. The safety and well-being of our community should be the top priority, and I believe that allowing this project to proceed would be detrimental to our neighborhood. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope that you will take my concerns into consideration and make a decision that prioritizes the safety of our residents. Sincerely, Doreen Laren 2
