HomeMy WebLinkAbout25-2502 Committee and Commissions Appointment to Planning and Zoning Commission CITY OF MERIDIAN RESOLUTION NO. 25-2502 BY THE CITY COUNCIL: CAVENER, LITTLE ROBERTS, OVERTON, STRADER, TAYLOR,WHITLOCK A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE APPOINTMENT OF JIMMY SMITH TO SEAT 4 OF THE MERIDIAN ARTS COMMISSION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS,the Meridian City Code § 2-2-1 establishes the Meridian Arts Commission, its members and terms of their appointments; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Meridian deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Meridian to approve the appointment of Jimmy Smith to Seat 4 of the Meridian Arts Commission as recommended by Mayor Simison and described herein; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN CITY, IDAHO: Section 1. That, effective immediately, Jimmy Smith is hereby appointed to Seat 4, which term shall expire on February 28, 2028; Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect on March 1, 2025. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Meridian, Idaho, this 25th day of February, 2025. Participation requires a significant time commitment (approximately 10 =15 hours per month) . Interest • Experiences Why you interested in serving on a board or commission . I am very interested in promoting and improving public art. As a Sign Painter I am very invested in keeping our public spaces infused with color and community. Public art is the best way that we can relate to each other and our surrounding community and take pride in our public spaces. By taking pride in our public spaces we preserve and pay homage to the intent and purpose laid in by our forefathers who built them . Also by promoting tasteful and meaningful public art projects in our communities we also improve the quality of life for those who live in them When we can also employ local artists in those communities we further invest in their future. I make and paint all of my signs the traditional way -by hand ! Letter of Interest for Meridian planning and zoning Planning and Zoning Commission as a local Idahoan is a pretty impactful role . It ' s a chance to shape how communities grow , preserve natural spaces , and maintain a balance between development and the environment . Idaho , in particular, is experiencing a lot of growth , so there ' s a big need for thoughtful planning to ensure that new development doesn ' t outpace infrastructure , resources , or the local character. For someone on a planning and zoning commission , there ' s an opportunity to influence things like land use regulations , zoning ordinances , and growth management policies . It ' s a way to make sure that development aligns with community values , environmental considerations , and long-term sustainability. Plus , the ability to help solve practical problems — like making sure there ' s enough affordable housing , or that local businesses have the right space to grow — can be really rewarding .
