Dear Meridian City Commissioners,
My name is Amy Packer. My family and I live at 6643 Cochrane Dr, less than a mile from the proposed re-
zoning area. We are very concerned about the safety of a big shopping area being proposed at this
site. We hope that safety concerns will be taken seriously and addressed. The intersection at Lake
Hazel and Meridian Roads has become busier and busier as building has continued to increase. With a
large shopping center, this will be even busier and more dangerous. The intersection is not safe for the
amount of traffic this will bring. It is not safe now. It is hard to slow down enough on Meridian Rd to be
able to turn onto Lake Hazel Rd without incurring the wrath of the traffic behind me (or my husband or my
children) or almost hitting me every time I slow to turn. Would you please consider the health and safety
of your citizens and require turning lanes (for slowing and accelerating) at all four corners of the
intersection at Lake Hazel and Meridian Roads, and extending the sidewalks down Lake Hazel Rd? This is
our neighborhood. Not only do we commute to work and school on these roads, we walk and run along
these roads. It is becoming less and less safe to do so.
We specifically moved to this area (almost 20 years ago) because it is rural. We don't need/want
shopping nearby. We don't need commercial buildings in neighborhoods or established rural
neighborhoods. When we heard the rumor that a big shopping center was being built right down the
street, we found a statement from a commissioner that "the people in these "rural" areas need access to
shopping". That is not true. There is plenty of shopping in the cities. We choose to live out here because
of the peace and quiet needed for health. We are happy to commute to shopping centers.
Thank you for your time,
Amy Packer
