As members of the Meridian City Commissioners, we are
well aware that this voluntary position requires significant
time on your behalf. Your ultimate duty is to take into
consideration all the concerns of our city and weigh in on
what is best for the future of Meridian. Thank you for doing
your job well!
We have lived in The Treasure Valley since 1978. Currently
we live in our retirement home on 5+ acres at 351 West
Lake Hazel Road, Meridian, Idaho 83642. We are blessed
with wonderful neighbors who also live on acreages and
have done so for many years.
Controlled growth can definitely bring with it prosperity.
The final cost of that prosperity needs to be dealt with first:
1. Impact Fees - cost of road work, schools, fire
departments, stop lights, and increased TAXES
absolutely should NOT be passed onto homeowners or
the city of Meridian. When COSTCO was built in Nampa
significant impact fees were assessed in the
surrounding district. If Costco wants to come - we can
not stop them. BUT they can surely pay all the IMPACT
FEES and taxes for doing so! In our neighborhood
many of us live on a fixed income.
2. Highway 69/Meridian Road - in the last 2-3 years we
have seen and witnessed an uncountable rise in
accidents. I am not talking about mere fender benders!
We are talking about head on collisions, vehicle roll
overs and power pole incidents. From Franklin Road
intersection all the way to Deerflat Road we have seen
roads closed due to a serious accident The morning
and afternoon after work traffic is bumper to bumper.
This alone is on Highway 69/Meridian Road. This does
mot include the same hours of traffic on both Victory
Road and Amity Road. It is hard to evaluate East Lake
Hazel at this time because it has been closed due to
construction rather than open over the last couple of
years.
Before any decisions are made as to a rezoning of the
property in question - I believe due diligence requires
a lengthy study of the traffic patterns, research of
accidents and how they can be decreased, turning
lanes should be required when turning off of Highway
69/Meridian Road onto side roads such as West Lake
Hazel. The traffic will increase more than substantially
at the Highway 69/Meridian Road and Lake Hazel
intersection. This alone does not take into account the
speed limit and pace of the traffic on Highway
69/Meridian Road. Do you really want to have
Highway 69/Meridian Road turn into Eagle Road
which is the busiest road in all of Idaho?
3. NOISE Factors - this is not just for our immediate area
of Highway 69/Meridian Road and Lake Hazel. This
should be an ultimate concern of the entire length of
the Highway 69/Meridian Road. It addresses safety,
noise deterrents, etc. If new subdivisions are required
to put up a sound barrier then the same needs to be
applied to all future endeavors on Highway
69/Meridian Road for the safety and protection of
property owners and residents.
We would like to sincerely thank the Meridian City
Commissioners for their dire research and sincere efforts
in making decisions. Especially on this and future
endeavors involving Highway 69/Meridian Road.
