City of Meridian Mayor and city council members:
I continue to be surprised of the way the city council has handled the
unrestricted operations of the Timer creek industrial site located
within city limits and residential area in Meridian.
Every meeting I have attended there are different excuses or false
statements that continue to cause confusion and mis-trust for the
people impacted by this operation.
They continue take in large amount’s of materials that were never
approved and the city does not stop it.
Since the Sept city council meeting the concreate and asphalt piles
have more than doubled in size and they continue to take in and grind
large amounts of building materials, all of which are documented
sources of hazardous silica dust. They also continue to take in and
process Waste Activated Sludge, not cheese whey, or cheese whey
WAS or whatever they are calling it today.
The piles of processed materials continue to grow larger than the
agreed on heights to comply with Meridian city nuisance code. They
have also never followed through with the barrier of trees and
landscape to help seclude the site. All of these items have been
highlighted at previous council meetings and Timber creek always has
an excuse why they are not following the previously outlined and
agreed upon conditions.
These are a few of the reasons the public in the impact area do not
trust what Timber creek says. This operation was initially proposed
1
to the public and pushed through approval as an agricultural site to
grind bedding for animals. Obviously this was never the intent of
Timber creeks industrial operations plan.
One question came up in the previous meeting -how can we(the
council) define the appropriate exit plan that works for
everyone. This seems to be a pretty straightforward solution:
1) Immediately stop the intake and processing of hazardous material,
concrete, asphalt, building materials, WAS. 2) Clearly define an exit
plan around the timing of a Certification of Occupancy as originally
agreed to.
Timber creek has had more than enough time to prepare for the exit
of this location based on the previously agreed on Development
Agreement. Why are they now just starting and asking for an
extended plan to vacate? And why would the council agree to any
extended plan?
With the continued development of residential, schools, city park,
public library, traffic… this operation is causing a public nuisance and
a hazard in this residential area. Please help protect this great area of
a growing Meridian.
Let’s get this industrial operation moved to a more appropriate
location sooner than later.
