Dear Meridian City Council, I reside in the Pinnacle Community and I have done extensive research on Timber Creek’s promises to cease operations within 30 days of a Certificate of Occupancy within 1,000 feet of their Locus Grove site. Timber Creek boasts about being concerned of the health, safety and wellbeing of their neighbors and community, but their actions don’t align. Timber Creek is constantly putting industrial toxins into the air of the neighborhood. Timber Creek was recognized in 2015 as a Pollution Prevention Champion by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. Really? Residents have continuously complained about the toxic odors causing them cough, congestion, nausea, and illnesses. Silicosis damages your lungs making it hard to breathe, increases your risk of lung infections, and may lead to heart failure and lung cancer. The CDC resources: “Silica…It’s Not Just Dust: Silica Dust Causes Silicosis”, “Silica Can Disable Or Kill You”, and “Silicosis Can Be Prevented But Not Cured”. It’s a deadly cloud of silica that is visible and airborne from Timber Creek’s industrial crushing of rocks, cement, granite, sand and other construction materials. If they care (as they say they do) they would have exited in 2016 instead of request repeated extensions. They would not recycle industrial toxic materials, chemicals, and WAS into our environment causing our communities high risk health issues. One only needs to look at their website to see they have a conflict of interest, they are an active participant in Meridian SWAC (Solid Waste Advisory Commission) Meetings. I strongly believe Timber Creek is procrastinating because it financially benefits them to do so. They have had plenty of time to exit out, but they will continue taking contracts, extending and expanding their materials list, and put out airborne toxins for our children and families. Vote NO. Keep Timber Creek to their original DA, to exit out in 30 days of a Certificate of Occupancy within 1,000 feet. Show your support for your community’s health, safety, and wellbeing. Sincerely, Joann Tima Retired Registered Nurse 1
