Brian, I'm writing to express my support for revising zoning regulations to distinguish between low-traffic drive-thrus, like those at banks, and high-volume ones, such as popular restaurants. As Meridian grows, the impact of high-traffic drive-thrus on nearby small businesses and residential areas is increasing, bringing congestion and safety concerns to our community. Creating separate zoning guidelines for these types of drive-thrus would be a proactive step toward safer, more accessible neighborhoods. I hope the council will consider this adjustment to better support the needs of our city and its residents. Thank you for your attention to this important issue. Lost Rapids) Attachments:I&O Site Map.pdf Dear Sonya Allen / Meridian City Planning and Zoning Commission, Sonya, Thanks for the call back today and message. Sorry I missed you. I am writing to express my strong opposition to the development of additional fast-food chains within our city. While I understand the potential economic benefits these establishments may bring, I believe the negative impacts on our community far outweigh any advantages. As home owners and tax payers in the Bainbridge development, and our main entrance into our neighborhood is near the intersection of Ten Mile Rd. and Lost Rapids Dr; We are acutely aware of the existing congestion with the busy Olivia Apartment complex, Costco warehouse and gas station, as well as the other (already fast food establishments) located in and/or opening soon at this intersection. As a family from California, we are also well aware of the popularity of In-N-Out Burger, and how the revolving door of a busy drive through establishment impacts residential traffic. We are certain that is the City of Meridian were to conduct a traffic inflict study, the results would clearly reinforce our concern. We are vehemently opposed to this for those reasons. Also as homeowners with children in the local school district, we would prefer healthy alternatives to the already over-abundant fast food chains in North West Meridian. There are local business that would be a far better choice, which also contributes to (not dilutes) the character and diversity of Meridian. Here are some key concerns: * Traffic and Congestion: New fast-food locations increase traffic and congestion, negatively impacting our infrastructure and quality of life. Further impact already busy commercial/residential traffic at/near the corner of Ten Mile Rd. and Lost Rapids Dr. * Public Health: Fast food is linked to numerous health problems, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. Encouraging the proliferation of fast-food options undermines our community's health and well-being. * Environmental Impact: The fast-food industry generates significant waste, contributing to pollution and resource depletion. This contradicts our city's sustainability goals. * Local Businesses: Fast-food chains often drive out local restaurants, reducing our community's diversity and character. 1 * Land Use: Valuable land is being used for low-quality development that does not benefit our community in the long term. * With an over abundance of fast food choices on this area, we favor healthy, local, and family style sit- down establishments, over drive through chain establishments. I urge the city council/planning & zoning commission to carefully consider these concerns and prioritize the development of healthier, more sustainable, and community-oriented businesses. Let's work together to create a city that supports the well-being of all its residents.
