1. August 28, 2024 meeting minutes approved.
STAFF PROGRAM REPORT
2. Monthly Presentation: City of Meridian’s Solid Waste Plan (Staff Schultz)
Plan was completed in 2023 and is evaluated every 5 years. The purpose of the plan is
to identify key program issues, establish program goals, and document current solid
waste conditions. The plan’s 5-year goal is to achieve a consistent 20% total landfill
diversion rate and develop access to comprehensive service options for all residents
and businesses. The plan outlines three main recommended action areas to meet the
City’s solid waste goals: community landfill diversion initiatives, education and
outreach development, and city operations improvement.
Cord Stanley from Republic Services commented that to help with recycling
contamination making sure MFDs have adequate trash service and charging
contamination fees. Rachele Klein from Republic Services commented that Meridian has
an ordinance that requires business to provide space for recycling.
3. Solid Waste Rate Updates (Staff Schultz)
All three documents, resolution and 2 amendments, were passed by Council and will go
into effect October 1, 2024.

There were a lot more hauls for FY24. Only 3 hauls in FY23 compared to 5 hauls in
FY24. All 5 hauls went to the MRF in Boise. Total collected in FY24 was 2.78 tons.
STAKEHOLDER UPDATES
Rachele Klein commented that Meridian Middle School requested 50-70 repurposed bikes. The
Republic MRF in Boise is hoping to finish installing upgrades by quarter 2-3 of 2025.
