Dear Mayor and City Council,
I write to you today to express my disagreement with the proposed development “Rental apt.
development Centrepoint/Us?ck- City”, as a neighbor and tax-paying resident of the
neighborhood directly adjacent to this proposed development. My house is one the nearest to the
boundary of this proposed development.
I want to share with you that I fully support development in general, as well as the idea of
affordable housing, and inves?ng in our wonderful community – what I don’t support is
development that does not make sense, and that would essen?ally punish a large number of
residents of this wonderful city. This proposed development is guided by ideas from individuals
that are not local to our community – they do not know Meridian, they do not know our roads,
traffic, and what makes our city special. Yet, they are a?emp?ng to tell our city what is best for
Meridian. It is easy for them to say – they will simply take the profits, go on to their next project,
and leave my neighborhood, your tax payers, with all the nega?ve consequences of their ill-
thought out development.
Tax payers like myself purchased our homes knowing that commercial development would
eventually take place on that premium land – commercial development that would enrich the
area and provide addi?onal reasons to call this area home. This development is not that.
Instead, the developer is proposing a dense amount of new homes for an area whose resources
are already taxed – our roads and intersec?ons spill out, traffic is dangerous, emergency services
are not there to support these many new houses, and what is the developer’s response? Their
response during the planning and zoning mee?ng was that the current plan is not as bad as the
previous planned development. Slightly be?er than extremely terrible, is s?ll terrible.
This developer is trying to use an excep?on that in the opinion of the tax payers that help support
this city, should not have been granted (making the lot from commercial to residen?al), and wants
to squeeze as much out of our city. They got the excep?on, they were not happy with just that.
They now want to squeeze as many apartments as possible, bypass our rules and regula?ons, so
1
they can squeeze as much profit out of Meridian before being on their way, and leaving those that
vote for you and support the city to pay for their ac?ons.
You have a tough responsibility ahead of you, and we ask that you do not punish residents that
have supported this city for years, by awarding developers that will not be here to deal with the
consequences.
If I can leave you with one summarized thought – no person that will have to directly live with the
outcome of this development is in support of this development. Only those that will not have to
live directly with it support it. Everyone of us that will have to live with the outcome are against it.
Please do not punish Meridian tax payers by rewarding the greed of out-of-state developers. We
thank you for your hard work.
