Subject:No high density housing at the district

Hello,
My name is Melissa Hamilton. I live near cherry lane and ten mile. I have driven on ten mile road daily for the last 9
years.
Here is why I’m passionate about saying absolutely NO high density housing at the district.
High density housing is leading to an increase in traffic. BUT that is not the only downfall. It is putting massive strain on
our community. Schools, parks, parking, congestion, are a few examples.
Last year my 5th grader had 37 kids in his class at Chaparral Elementary. 37 kids in ONE class. That is insanity. This is the
closest school to the district where you plan on building more housing. Our school is full to the max. Fuller park is the
only local park located in the area for whoever will be living at the district. Its parking lot is already bursting on good
weather days.
By building high density housing, or even medium density housing, you are not being considerate of the character of our
town. My husband and I moved to this area because of the open spaces, small classroom sizes, quick access to a grocery
store, and green spaces to ride a bike. That is all going to be gone very soon.
I won’t even let my son ride his bike to meridian middle from our Parkside neighborhood due to the traffic. The morning
congestion is insane and drivers are not being careful. They are in a rush because their commute time has increased.
Pine and ten mile intersection is exactly where a young man, trying to get to school, was killed by a driver. We can’t go
back in time and take away all the new apartments and businesses. But we can STOP what is coming. This is so
important. The future of our amazing town of Meridian is at stake.
Long term residents like myself are finding that Meridian may not be our home for much longer. Not only due to
gentrification but the overall lower quality of life. Meaning, less spaces to feel peace, reduced access to amenities,
overcrowded public spaces, and less access to parking or recreational areas.
If you cannot see sense from this email and other like it then I demand that you fix our current problems before creating
new ones. Build another school, build another park, build a green belt, and THEN reevaluate to see if our city can handle
more housing.
Thank you,
Melissa Hamilton
