From: Karla Ehlers <karlaehlers@yahoo.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 24, 2024 2:55 PM To: Luke Cavener <lcavener@meridiancity.org> Subject: Follow up to proposed changes to The District External Sender - Please use caution with links or attachments. Hi Luke, I appreciate the opportunity I had last week to share my point of view on the proposed zoning changes to The District at Ten Mile proposal. After listening to the developer's presentation I wanted to make a couple of additional points. First, while I understand this development is aimed at being a live, shop, work, play community, it will not be a self- contained community. Those who live here will be leaving The District regularly for school, recreation, work (for those not employed at The District) and many other reasons. These people will certainly add to the substantial traffic problems we are already facing on Ten Mile, as well as Black Cat if there is an outlet from The District on that side. Second, the point was made that the increases in high density and medium high density residential housing is not substantial. As someone who lives in this area, who sends my kids to the local elementary school, who drives these roads, any changes to the Future Land Use Map that aim to bring in more people are substantial. When traffic is regularly backed up, schools are at or over capacity, and recreational facilities like parks and libraries aren't big enough to meet demand, that tells me we do not have room for more housing units until infrastructure changes have been implemented to prepare for increased capacity. Changing the plan that has been in place for years to add 12 acres of high and medium- high density housing may not seem like much to a developer, but to me and members of my community it definitely is, especially as this area has already been filled with multiple high density housing units with many more on the way. I hope the City Council will not approve any exceptions or changes to the current Future Land Use Map and/or the Ten Mile Interchange Plan that add more residents to this already densely populated area. If we are going to make any changes to these plans I feel it should be to decrease the density of housing in Meridian, not increase it, to allow our infrastructure to catch up and allow us to be proactive and prepared for future growth. Finally, I can tell you are diligent in seeking out and listening to your constituents to understand our point of view. Thank you for all your hard work and being willing to stand up for us, even and especially when that means you stand alone. Thank you, Karla Ehlers 4731 W. Blue Creek Ct. Meridian, ID 83642 1
