Hello Brian, I believe you're the correct person to email about this concern, but if not, please let me know who else I can reach out to. I live in the Oaks North subdivision off McMillan between Black Cat and McDermott. We have seen tremendous growth in our neighborhood alone over the last few years, and then on top of that, rental town-homes have been built on the corner of McMillan and McDermott that our neighborhood fought hard against, as well as several other new developments at the 4-way stop of Black Cat and McMillan. Unfortunately, there are also apartments going in at that same 4-way stop that we were never told about, and then our neighborhood just found out that the Blayden Apartments are being proposed for development on Black Cat and Chinden. So, I'm writing to find out what information I can pass along to our neighborhood, regarding who we need to speak to, any meetings we can attend, letters written that will hopefully be read at the council meetings, and so forth, to stop the passing of this apartment complex. We are all BEYOND frustrated with the number of new homes (especially town-homes and apartments) that are being built all around us. We feel like the city of Meridian just can't say no to developers that are just looking to make money and don't seem to care about how building all of these homes is affecting residents that have already lived in this area for years. Traffic is horrendous on all the roads around us and our schools (Pleasant View Elementary, mainly) is so overpopulated. Instead of building more homes, we need another elementary school (unless West Ada can do a better job of re-zoning) and especially a middle school. I realize you probably don't have much say in the school situation, but something needs to be done to stop the development of all the residential that's happening. We are too populated for the space, the roads and the schools already. No one in our area is happy about what's been happening. We moved here 6 years ago to escape what we did not love about the city in Washington we came from, and fell in love with Meridian because it encompassed real community values that we were seeking, space, hardly any traffic, and an affordable place to live. I'm not feeling the same as of lately about Meridian. At some point, there has to be a stop to growth if we want to keep that same feel. Please let me know what we can do as a community and neighborhood to stop any further residential developments around us. I would be happy to pass it along to our neighbors so we can all take part in showing the city we are not for this, and we want our opinions (as people who live here- not just developers looking to make money) to be considered and taken seriously. https://boisedev.com/news/2024/09/18/blayden-meridian-apartments/ Thank you for your time.
