Subject: Opposi?on Comments for the City Council Mee?ng on September 17, 2024 Agenda Item #11
Timbercreek Recycling Hearing H-2024-0032.
Dear Meridian City Council,
I am strongly opposed to the Modified Development Agreement proposed by Timbercreek Recycling. I
live within a few blocks of Timbercreek Recycling in the Pinnacle sub-division near Locust Grove and Lake
Hazel. I believe the nega?ve effects of expanding this project will not only affect me and other residents
in the Pinnacle sub-division but also the nearby Gem Prep Charter School and Discovery Park which are
both less than a mile from the proposed expansion. The reasons for my opposi?on are listed below:
Increase in dust par?cles into the environment, causing air quality concerns for nearby residents,
school children at Gem Prep and the thousands of annual visitors at Discovery Park. I am
especially concerned about the hazardous silica dust from concrete. You can see the clouds of
dust in the air from Discovery Park.
Increase in odors and toxins into the air. Adding addi?onal materials and expanding the services
would release addi?onal harmful toxins into the air. Do we want young children and park visitors
to have to breathe those on a daily basis?
Toxins spilling into nearby water canals ge?ng into the water supply. This could affect more than
just Meridian depending on how far the canal travels.
Increase in traffic with large trucks with limited road space (2-lane 2-way street). This could be
corrected with a larger road, but at the expense of the taxpayers.
This expansion affects the nearby residents of Pinnacle as well as anyone who visits Discovery Park or
children who a?end Gem Prep. This area is Southern Meridian is growing rapidly and a?rac?ng new
ci?zens daily. This expansion from Timbercreek Recycling could become a large stain in what is a
beau?ful area. Please do not allow this to become a black eye on the neighborhood.
I strongly urge city council to deny the modifica?on request to expand the Development Agreement. I
would also request city council require rou?ne inspec?ons on this facility for obvious public health
reasons.
Furthermore, I appreciate the ?me and comprehensive details Sonya Allen, Meridian City Associate
Planner, took in crea?ng the community report (Agenda Packet pages 78-89).
Sincerely,
Brian Myers
