Support for Development Agreement with Timber Creek
Dear Mayor Simison and Esteemed Members of the City Council,
On behalf of Republic Services, I am writing to express our strong support for the
Development Agreement between the City of Meridian and Timber Creek. As Meridian and
the Treasure Valley continue to grow rapidly, it is critical that we provide Timber Creek with
the necessary time to establish the infrastructure required to meet the region's growing
waste management needs. We respectfully urge the City Council to grant Timber Creek
additional time to complete this vital work.
The demand for reliable waste management is increasing in tandem with our
expanding population, and Timber Creek is diligently working to build infrastructure that
can accommodate this surge. However, building effective, modern waste management
facilities is not a process that can be rushed. It requires thoughtful planning, significant
investment, and careful construction to ensure the long-term success of the system.
Rushing this development could lead to operational inefficiencies, increased costs, and
long-term service disruptions.
A delay or disruption in this process could have significant and detrimental impacts
on our community. Without the necessary infrastructure in place, we risk overwhelming
our current waste management systems, resulting in inadequate service capacity, delayed
collections, and increased environmental hazards. Moreover, Meridian and the Treasure
Valley could face limited options for waste disposal, forcing waste to be diverted to distant
Locations, increasing transportation costs, and ultimately, burdening residents and
businesses with risk of service disruption or cancelation.
Timber Creek has proven themselves as a reliable and conscientious partner in the
community. They have shown a consistent commitment to working in alignment with
Meridian's values, focusing on environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability.
They are not just meeting immediate waste demands but are investing in innovative
solutions that will serve Meridian for decades to come.Their approach, which prioritizes
building infrastructure the right way, should be supported to avoid the negative
consequences of cutting corners.

Furthermore, any disruption or lack of proper waste infrastructure could lead to
significant public health risks. Improperly managed waste poses threats such as
unsanitary conditions, the attraction of vermin, and potential contamination of local
ecosystems. These risks are heightened when waste management solutions are
inadequate or hastily implemented.Timber Creek's commitment to doing things correctly
mitigates these risks, but they require more time to complete this crucial work.
Meridian deserves waste management solutions that will stand the test of time and
grow with our community.Timber Creek's efforts to build these solutions will provide
Meridian with a stable, efficient, and sustainable waste management infrastructure.
However, achieving this goal cannot be rushed. A well-planned and properly executed
system will ensure that we have the capacity to meet future demand while protecting the
environment and public health.
In conclusion, granting Timber Creek additional time to complete their work is
essential for avoiding the disruptions and negative impacts that come from insufficient
waste infrastructure. We strongly encourage the City Council to support this extension,
which will ensure that Meridian remains a clean, safe, and sustainable community as it
continues to grow.
Thank you for your consideration and for your commitment to supporting the future
of Meridian. We look forward to continued collaboration with the City Council, Mayor, and
Timber Creek as we work to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Thankyou,
