Dear Meridian City Council, I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed 2024 amendment to the Timber Creek Recycling Facility agreement. As a Patagonia neighborhood resident, I live near Timber Creek and I am deeply concerned about the changes that would allow Timber Creek to continue operations beyond the original ten-year limit. This extension, along with the expansion of acceptable materials, the addition of on-site retail activities, and the removal of the truck load limit, poses significant risks to our community through increased environmental concerns, traffic, and odors. My child has asthma and I’m concerned for her health along with everyone else’s with the grinding of concrete, asphalt, and building materials that release hazardous toxins into the air. Silica dust is a by-product of grinding these materials and has been proven to cause cancer in humans. There is no attempt to reduce the amount of dust during the processing of these materials allowing toxins to become airborne impacting air quality. I urge the City Council to enforce the original ten- year operational limit and reject any amendments that would extend Timber Creek's operations beyond this period. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Sincerely, Jessica Ashton 1
