HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter from Paul & Pam Jagosh October 24, 2006 RECEIVED To: Mayor Tammy De Weerd Councilman Joe W. Borton Councilman Keith Bird Councilman Charlie Rountree Councilman Shaun Wardle OCT 2 1j 2iJ06 qty Of Meridian CIty Clerk Office From: Paul & Pam Jagosh 551 W. Kodiak Drive. Meridian, ill. 83642 RE: Proposed Collector Road for Kodiak Drive We are writing to you in opposition of the proposed collector road on Kodiak Drive in the Bear Creek subdivision. When we purchased our home a year ago, we did our "homework" in researching the land surrounding the Bear Creek subdivision and the future plans for that land. Satisfied with what we found, we purchased our home next to the Bear Creek Park Imagine our surprise a year later when the Bear Creek Homeowner's Association told us that Kodiak Drive is being considered as a collector road. Not only was that never in part of the City's Comprehensive Plan when we purchased our home, it is simply an absurd proposal to have a street that has 90 degree angles (one of the angles being a crossing to Bear Creek Park by children and families) as a collector road to one of the states busiest roads, that being Meridian Road. We are absolutely shocked that Meridian Planning and Zoning or our City Government, for that matter, would even consider this a proper solution to the already unmanageable traffic problems growing in Meridian. Not to mention the complete lack of safety for the children and families in Bear Creek and the surrounding neighborhoods. If Kodiak Drive is turned into a collector road, we can pretty much say good-bye to the safety of our children going to the park, or even playing in our front yard. Our whole neighborhood would become a completely different world with the increased traffic & we fear for the safety of our children, pets and other families of the neighborhood. Further, we attended the ACHD meeting in September where the Kodiak collector road was discussed. There were several points brought forward that included the requirements of a collector road, which Kodiak doesn't qualify for, and the fact that Calderwood Street, an already existing collector road, qualifies to receive the designation of a traffic light to Meridian Road. ACHD determined that dedicating Kodiak Drive was a "band aid" rather than a full solution. On a final note, before moving to Bear Creek, we lived on Birdie Street, three doors down from Ten Mile Road. We sold our home before the expansion began on that part of Ten Mile in anticipation of increased traffic. We KNEW that the expansion would be coming prior to purchasing that home, as we did our homework on it. That didn't come as a surprise to us, and we were happy to get out of the home before the traffic got worse. Now the true disappointment will come if the City of Meridian continues to push our new location as a collector road. Especially because we didn't KNOW, nor did the City of Meridian plan, that this was even a future option for our street. Please consider those that will be impacted by Kodiak Drive becoming a collector road. Our children, our pets, our families, our quality of life as a neighborhood will be affected in a deeply negative way. We take tremendous pride in our homes and our street and this will indeed hurt us. Sincerely, Paul & Pam Jagosh
