Mayor DeWeerd and Meridian City Council
As a citizen of Meridian, Idaho, I want you to know that I am grateful for you and your leadership in
developing this wonderful city in which we live.
I'm sure it's a monumental task, with the rapid growth that has taken place here in the past couple of
years.
As a resident of Bear Creek Subdivision for 3 % years, I want to express some concerns I have with
the newly planned Shepherd's Creek subdivision to be built on the land west of the new Nazarene
Church, now under construction.
I want you to know that I have no problem with that land being developed to provide more homes for
Meridian residents. My concern is the density of the
homes in that space. I believe 55 projected for a 12 acre plot, which
1
would also need space for roads and some landscaped borders, is excessive crowding of homes.
This density of houses would cause a huge increase in the traffic flow through our subdivision's
streets where many young children are living and playing.
I am concerned that if the land is not leveled to the same level as our homes, there will be a huge
drainage issue for already existing homes.
I am also aware that it was proposed by your city planner that Kodiak Dr.
should be considered as a signaled access road through to Meridian Rd. This seems like such an
impractical suggestion when you see the curvy route and 90 degree turns that this would entail. I
think the ACHD has already stated that they would not support a stoplight at the proposed access
point on Meridian road just a half mile from Overland Road as this would do nothing but slow and
bottle neck traffic moving south away from the Interstate. We all know that an interchange at Ten
Mile Road and the Interstate will solve a lot of the congestion at the Meridian Interchange, and we
appreciate all that you and our city planners are doing to move this project forward.
We appreciate the time you give in helping to plan our city and make things run smoothly in the
community and I hope that you will consider these
concerns as you evaluate this new Shepherd's Creek subdivision. My
sincere thanks, Leslie Madsen (846-7850)
