Hello Meridian City Council,
I'm wri?ng to express my concerns about the proposed 2024 amendment to the Timber Creek Recycling
Facility agreement. As a resident of Lavender Heights at 1981 E Phenomenal St. Meridian, ID 83642, I support
Timber Creek's current opera?ons because I understand that it’s not their fault neighborhoods were built
around them. However, the proposed expansion—par?cularly the increase in acceptable materials, the
addi?on of on-site retail ac?vi?es, and the removal of the truck load limit—worries me deeply. These changes
could bring significant issues like increased traffic, stronger odors, and poten?al environmental risks that could
impact our neighborhood's quality of life. I’m especially concerned because Discovery Park, which is very close
to the facility, is full of kids playing all day. The poten?al hazards from the expansion could pose a threat to the
safety and well-being of these children and could affect the usability of the park, making it less enjoyable and
safe for families. Addi?onally, the new library and Gem Prep charter school are in the immediate area, which
raises further concerns about the impact on these essen?al community spaces.
Now that neighborhoods have developed around Timber Creek, the city gets to make a judgment call on what
is best for the community as a whole, rather than priori?zing a single business. I sincerely hope the City
Council will take these concerns to heart and thoroughly look over any amendments that would allow Timber
Creek to expand beyond its current scope. I’m more than willing to discuss this further if needed, and can be
