Please take my original email out and replace it with this one: I have just read that the City Council has proposed a property tax increase and will use the foregone tax revenue to accomplish this. I am TOTALLY opposed to this for the following reasons: *There are more residents in the City of Meridian than ever before, therefore, the tax base is much larger than ever before. *Since developers are building on every possible square inch of open land, why not increase the impact fees to support the infrastructure for all of the new residents? *If there is an issue of the infrastructure being at risk, why continue to issue building permits and jeopardize what infrastructure we have now? *I am a senior citizen and if I cannot manage my budget, I don't go to the Social Security Administration and tell them that I need an increase in my Social Security checks to cover my expenses. I manage with what I have. Why can't the City of Meridian do likewise? I am very frustrated by this announcement of increased taxes. Why is it that when you cannot manage the taxes/budget you receive now (even though they are higher than ever because we have more residents in Meridian than ever), you go back to the people and "increase taxes". We are already being taxed to death and now you want to increase the taxes because you cannot manage what you already have. What happens next year of the year after ---- just raise the taxes again because the current income hasn't been managed properly? I would not vote for any sitting council member or the mayor again and I will recommend to all the people you know to do the same, unless they change their minds.
