Dear Planning and Zoning Commissioners,
As a homeowner for over 26 years in the city of Meridian, I am asking that you please not build or approve such a
massive complex for apartment living at The Gateway at Ten Mile.
We currently have so much apartment development in our city. We have a home shortage. Please build more homes!
Our children cannot even afford homes, and an apartment that is equal to or more expensive than a mortgage payment
is not a good investment for their future. Also, the influx of that many people concentrated in one location is not going
to help our roads that we’ve struggled to keep up with.
There should be a moratorium on building right now. Our infrastructure cannot support this, which will result in raising
property taxes on homeowners. I am aware that the owner(s) at The Gateway at Ten Mile would also have to pay
property tax, but in no way would ever come up with the amount of taxes that could be collected by each of those
families if they were in houses. I am concerned that we have developers coming from outside of our state that do not
have an understanding of our community needs and frustrations. This appears to be extremely irresponsible. All I can
think is this must be advantageous for those that participate in handshake agreements more than it is for our
community, currently, and for the future.
Please be mindful of and responsible to the citizens of the city of Meridian.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Slemp
