RE:The Gateway at 10 Mile, PP H-2024-0010
Dear Meridian City Planners:
In our letter to you dated May 17 regarding this project,we used the architectural capacity of our effected schools. Upon
further reflection, we want to update our input and let you know, given their current uses, what our program capacity is
at each building. They are updated below. Please note, our enrollment is based on March 2024.These numbers are
subject to change with the beginning of a new year.
Based on current enrollment data specific to the area surrounding this proposed development, we estimate a
development consisting of 0 single-family units and 390 multi-family units could house approximately 51 school aged
children.Approval of this application will affect enrollments at the following schools in West Ada School District.
Enrollment Program
Capacity
Chaparral Elementary School 543 550
Meridian Middle School 955 1100
Meridian High School 1769 2075
Some elementary students will enroll in one of our schools of choice lessing the impact on Chaparral Elementary.
West Ada School District supports economic growth; however, growth fosters the need for additional school capacity.
Future developments will continue to have an impact on the district's capacity. Should a school exceed capacity,to meet
the need for additional school capacity in this area one or more of the following may need to be implemented:
• Transporting students to an alternate school with available classrooms.
• Attendance area adjustments if there is availability in a nearby school.
• Passage of a bond to build new schools to fit the enrollment needs.
• Portable classrooms placed on the property.
West Ada School District requests developers'consideration for providing safe walkways, bike paths, and pedestrian
access for our students to schools and community resources. Because of the proximity to the railroad crossing, we expect
this development to be within at least school bus zone. WASD recommends the addition of a micro path from the plaza
between Street A and Street B (as shown in the conceptual rendering)to the sidewalk along Ten Mile Road. This location
would be a prime location for a bus stop.
Sincerely,
Da vid Reinhart
