Hello,
As a current homeowner in the Baraya subdivision that will soon "coexist" with the Gateway at
Ten Mile, I must ask for the recommendation to remain a commercial site.
Within our established subdivision we have current infrastructure and intersection engineering
issues that have led to a multi years long collaboration with ACHD and Meridian Police
Department, with no resolution. Individuals that do not want to wait on Franklin road traffic cut
through our subdivision, speed through the stop sign to then race through our entire
neighborhood to make it through the apartment complex and out to Ten Mile-- putting residing
homeowners and families at risk. MPD and ACHD has endured receiving countless security
footage from our residence, has been on scene to issue tickets, and has now relied on ACHD to
complete a SECOND traffic test with no resolution.
On 6/28/2024 a car did not stop at the sign with 15 adults outside playing cornhole, and children
playing. The car missed a child by inches and sped off which resulted in an argument and MPD
being dispatched to the scene. The vehicle was not a homeowner, but renting an Airbnb at a
different location not near the intersection, but used the shorter entrance to avoid traffic on
Franklin rd.
We have gone as far as attempting to sell our home of 5 years just to leave our corner lot, and
leave the stop sign the city has mis-managed; as it is only a matter of time before someone is
seriously injured or killed. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful. But as we watched security
footage during open houses and showings, potential buyers were clearly less than impressed
with traffic blatantly blowing through the stop sign at 35-40 mph in a residential area.
Beyond the capacity to evolve the Valley's infrastructure plan as you build homes, we are in
desperate need for more commercial space and small business opportunities. With our
neighborhood between two Amazon facilities, soon to be Tesla, and Meta up the street, all of us
are desperate for more options to WALK to. We were "pitched" a Village in our area. A place to
live, and play. We were originally zoned for a school within our neighborhood, restaurants, and
shops. A place for neighbors to collect with the community. With the apartments continuing to
be built next to Scheels, more on Ten Mile and Pine, you are single handedly stealing the option
of small business opportunity and growth within the Valley by requesting to build more
apartments that are not needed. Most are going un-leased and vacant across from our
neighborhood.
Seeking the fastest gain and return to construct the quickest building isn’t always the best
approach. We’re currently facing challenges, and our initial perception of Meridian as a
retirement destination has changed. We’re now considering leaving the city.
