Dear Planning and Zoning Commission,
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed new Gateway At Ten Mile housing development
project. I believe that responsible growth needs to be a goal of our community. This particular development
raises significant concerns that have not been adequately addressed.
Infrastructure Strain: My primary concern lies with the lack of existing infrastructure to support such a
large influx of residents. The current roads, schools, and water resources are already stretched thin. An
increase in population would put a significant strain on these systems, leading to:
Traffic Congestion: Ten Mile Road is already notorious for congestion. This development would undoubtedly
worsen traffic flow, creating longer commutes and safety hazards for all residents.
School Capacity: Schools like Chaparral are already at capacity. The additional students this development
would bring could overwhelm the system, hindering the quality of education for all children.
Water Consumption: This development's water needs could overtax the current water supply. We risk
potential shortages and a decline in water pressure, impacting the entire area.
Master Plan Integrity: This proposed development seems to be another instance where exceptions are made
to the city's master plan. The area is not zoned for high-density residential housing. Approving this project
would further erode the integrity of the plan and create a precedent for future, unplanned development.
Reassessment Needed: Before approving any further development, I urge the commission to halt all building
and conduct a thorough reassessment of the city's master plan. This reassessment should consider the current
infrastructure limitations and ensure future development aligns with the needs of our growing community.
Thank you for considering my concerns. I urge you to reject the proposed development and prioritize a
sustainable growth plan for our city.
Sincerely,
Laura Miller
