HomeMy WebLinkAbout8/24 Letter from Betty Rossow 23 Aug 2006 Mayor DeWeerd and City Council Meridian City Hall 33 E. Idaho Avenue Meridian, Idaho 83646 RECEIVED AUf) ~. L, 200S City of Meridian City Clerk Office RE: City Council Meeting 22 Aug 2006 Over the months and months that this debacle with Red Cliff has been going on I can honestly say that for the most part you, Mayor and Council, have listened to the concerns of the residents -of the Carol Subdivisiori,-and tor that I thankyoll. -Your Job -is not an easy one] kitow- but I was dismayed with your decision to grant even a temporary full access onto Eagle Rd. tor the Bienville Square/Red Cliff project. There seemed to be a concern for the number of existing accesses in the BienvillelEwing properties. Of course there were cuts, which I might add were originally for the residents and for the only commercial activity, farming. I might also point out that there is at least one paved cut in the Landmark property and possibly more but not paved, whatever that may matter in granting their request tor a cut into Eagle Rd.. Last night the spokesman for Red Clin: Rob Haggett, several times during the meeting had one on one conference with legal counsel, Mr. Nary. I have no idea if this is an option to everyone who has come in tront ofthe Council but I feel that anything that Mr. Haggett had to say or ask ofMr. Nary should have been done tor all of us to hear and I strongly object that this took place. In seem distrustful of Mr. Haggett, may I remind you that this person threatened to put up the ugliest masonry fence they could find if we continued to object to their idea of Trek material fencing. This is only one example of why they have earned the mistrust of Carol Subdivision residents. Also during the ten minute break Mr. Nary and Mr. Borton went out together. Now I don't know if they were discussing the weather or Bienville, but right then we, the Carol residents in attendance, knew we were screwed, to use a vulgar term, as far as the access was concerned. I think maybe this sort of activity might come under review, legal or not, it looks suspicious. I hope that the word 'temporary' will be underlined and in bold print so Red Cliff - cari'rcbme up with another excuse tonbfbave the temDotan access withdniwn in the future.-- I might also remind you, Madam Mayor, you practically swooned over the Landmark concept for Sadie Creek Promenade, and we were right along with you. The reason being, that Landmark did every thing which was asked ofthem by Meridian Planning and Zoning. In contrast, Red Cliff has gone out oftheir way to do every thing in opposition to P&Z_ In one meeting, Mr. Unger (Red Cliff spokesman) indicated that their commercial buildings will follow the concept of Sadie Creek, I doubt that will happen unless Sadie Creek is granted the right-in access so that they can begin their project. As you will recall Red Cliff s concept for their commercial buildings were nondescript, completely opposite of Sadie Creek. At the September 26th Council meeting, I would stronglyurge you to give the access to Sadie Creek and urge ITD to do the same. Also there was great concern that Red Cliff was 'landlocked' without Sadie Creek. Without the right in cut you have essentially landlocked Sadie Creek as prospective clients do .
