Discuss: Public Art Temporary Mural Project at the September 14, 2024 Community Art Party NEXT MEETING - JULY 16, 2024 ADJOURNMENT Item 1. 7 Meridian Commission PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE MEETING Parks and Recreation Conference Room, 33 East Broadway Avenue Meridian, Idaho Monday, May 20, 2024 at 4:30 PM MINUTES ROLL-CALL ATTENDANCE _x Bobby Gaytan, Chair _x_Bridget King x Brecken Bird x Vassil Ivanov Also present Cassandra Schiffler Arts and Culture Coordinator, and Paxton Hergenroeder Seasonal Arts and Culture Assistant Meeting begins at 4:30pm APPROVAL OF MINUTES [ACTION ITEM] B. King moves to approve the minutes from the last meeting (3-19-24) V. Ivanov seconds All Ayes DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Recap: Fivemile Creek Trailhub Ribbon Cutting Cassandra summarized the ribbon cutting. It was a successful event and talks were given by the Mayor, city employees (including Cassandra herself), and the artist Eileen Gay. There was great media coverage and good attendance. 2. Upcoming: Transit Shelter Public Art Ribbon Cutting,June 14, 2024 The shelter art will be installed the day before the ribbon cutting. V. Ivanov asked if the installation is weather dependent and Cassandra confirmed that it is, and those in charge of installation will plan accordingly. 3. Project Updates: 2024 West Ada School District Student Art Traffic Boxes, Chateau Park Public Art, Fuller Park, Unsolicited Public Art Proposal Guide/Call Cassandra updated the committee members on current projects. F Item 1. B. Gaytan encouraged new members of the subcommittee to go to Fuller Park in person and think about theming for a future art project. 4. Review and Discuss: Linder Overpass Public Art Project Plan Committee members reviewed the Public Art Project Plan for Linder Overpass. Cassandra will schedule a pre-proposal meeting with staff,ACHD, landscape architect and artists as they prepare proposals.After artists submit projects stakeholders will jury and score projects to recommend a project. Bridget King and Bobby Gaytan will be stakeholders/reps for the arts commission. Potentially hold the jury meeting on July 16th to accommodate commissioners King and Gaytan's schedules. S. Review and Discuss: 2024 Traffic Box Call to Artists An evaluation panel will be held in late July. Cassandra posed the question of who the commission should invite to be stakeholders for the evaluation panel. Reps from local businesses/schools/community members that surround the traffic box locations were considered. 6. Discuss: Public Art Project at the September 14, 2024 Community Art Party B. Gaytan suggested an art project for the community art party (workshop, demo, community project, etc.). Commission members showed enthusiasm for the idea of a muralist team coming to paint murals live on a cube structure for the community art party event at Kleiner park. Something similar was done at this years Treefort Festival by local muralists team Sector Seventeen. Cassandra will look into the idea further and we will follow up on this in the next PAC meeting.
