All ayes. REPORTS 2. Update: Expanding the Gallery Audience with Meridian Senior Center and Other Senior Audiences — Lizzie Taylor L. Taylor discussed her personal mission to reach a senior audience and her recent efforts to present Initial Point Gallery information to Brighton and the Senior Center. There were ten people from the Senior Center at the opening reception for the last show. L. Taylor has been bringing the posters directly to several venues including the Senior Center, Roots, Albertsons, Hobby Lobby. She encouraged others to be personally responsible for finding at least two places to distribute the posters. DISCUSSION ITEMS 3. Discuss: IPG Call -to -Artists: Marketing the Call and an Overview of the Jurying Process The committee discussed the call and sending the call directly to: Surel's Place, PAPI (Facebook is their most active noticing board), IWS, Idaho Art Gallery, Art Source Gallery, Sandra at the Riverside (Lizzie to send contact to C. Schiffler). C. Schiffler has already reached out to BOSCO, TVAA, BSU, CWI. There are about 8 applicants, and C. Schiffler stated she's not too worried as most of the applications will arrive during the last week leading up to the deadline of June 2. The committee discussed opening the jurying process to the entire commission (previously just IPG committee juried the applicants) to get more jurors and more scoring. Based on the scores from the full commission, the committee would then look at the calendar and determine the yes/no cut off line, and make scheduling determinations for the show. C. Schiffler proposed looking at doing more two month long shows in 2024. The reason for this is a workload issue. Each show requires about 3-4 full workdays of time for C. Schiffler, from planning, communication, executing agreements, coordination, marketing, install, reminders, and deinstall for shows. At one time, a commissioner took on much of this work, and C. Schiffler is open to that, but currently, she coordinated all exhibition efforts. In particular, she recommended consolidating the June/July show and the August/September shows into two - month shows, as coordination around July 4th seems to be an issue for many artists, and the September show is a particularly stressful one to coordinate with simultaneous efforts and activities around Art Week and Concerts on Broadway are happening. N. Schofield thought this might be good for summer as people have vacations and scheduling and it would allow them more time to get to the show. L. Taylor agreed. The timeline for the Call to Artists is as follows: June 2 - Deadline to Apply June 8 - C. Schiffler will get jurying information to all commissioners June 14 - Commissioner's jury scoring is due June 16 - IPG will meet to review scores, make cut off for yes/no, and look at calendar for scheduling shows in 2024 4. Discuss: WASD Opening Reception (Host: Hannah Scoville) and Partnership with Downtown Meridian First Tuesday Event through the Chamber of Commerce L. Taylor will attend the next opening as H. Scoville has not yet hosted and there will be more people at this reception than most. The Meridian Chamber of Commerce is also hosting First Tuesday in downtown Meridian with a golf putting theme activity. C. Schiffler let them know that the gallery will participate in the activity. Visitors will come with scorecards to putt, and will see the WASD show. J. Del Barrio will help with the putting green and shared plans for a themed art education green. N. Schofield will see if her husband might be able to contribute something to the green. S. Upcoming Shows: West Ada School District Annual Art Show (May 2; Host: Hannah Scoville), Idaho Watercolor Society (June 2; Host: Hannah Scoville), "Back from Sequester - Out and About" Group Show (July 11; Host: Jessica Peters), Plein Air Painters of Idaho (August 1; Host: TBD) Hosts are needed for some of the upcoming shows, and since there are three new commission members, this will be announced at the next meeting. N. Schofield said she could host if needed in August. The installation date for the WASD show is May 1, and the deinstall is different than usual due to the Idaho Watercolor Society's needs. The deinstall for WASD is early on Wednesday May 24 and the install for the IWS is May 25. S. Review and Discuss: MAC Strategic Plan, Section V. Visual Arts Exhibitions The IPG Committee went through Strategic Plan Section V line by line. See Strategic Plan Review Document Notes for further details. Overall, the subcommittee seems to be doing a good job adhering to the MAC Strategic Plan section V. Some objectives and strategies as related to "temporary art" should fall into the Public Art section. The section of "providing encouragement and advice to businesses to exhibit artworks" was found to not be a reasonable strategy in that the IPG subcommittee is not in the business of suggesting or curating art except for its own purposes.
