HomeMy WebLinkAbout555 Plumbing Code Amdmt AMBROSE, FITZGERALD & CROOKSTON Anornoys and Counselors P.O. 90l<. 427 MeridIan, Idaho 113lO42 'olephono 868-4461 II I ORDINANCE NO.-5:~~ AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN REPEALING SECTION 2-201 OF TITLE 2, CHAPTER 2, PLUMBING CODE, OF THE REVISED AND COMPILED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, AND RE-ENACTING SAID SECTION WITH ADDITIONS THERETO PERTAINING TO THE REMOVAL FROM THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE OF THE EXCEPTION UNDER SECTION 203 (d) - USE OF COPPER TUBING, INSPECTION OF BUILDINGS IF THEY ARE RELOCATED AND RETENTION OF SECTION 1004 OF THE 1988 UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Meridian, State of Idaho, have concluded that it is in the best interest of said City to amend Title 2, Chapter 2, by the repeal of Section 2-201 and to re-enact said Section with changes thereto and providing for a deletion of the Exception under Section 203 (d), relating to Type M copper tubing and retaining a portion of the 1988 Uniform Plumbing Code. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, ADA COUNTY, IDAHO: SECTION 1: That the Section 2-201 of the Revised and Compiled Ordinances of the City of Meridian is hereby repealed. SECTION 2: That Section 2-201 of the Revised and Compiled Ordinances of the City of Meridian is hereby re-enacted to read as follows: 2-201: ADOPTION OF PLUMBING CODE: There is hereby adopted by the City of Meridian for the purpose of establishing minimum standards of design, materials and workmanship for all plumbing hereafter installed, altered or repaired, and to establish methods of procedure within the City limits, that certain Plumbing Code known as the "Uniform Plumbing Code, 1991 Editionll, and the whole thereof of which not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed in the office of the Clerk of the City, and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from the date of which this Chapter shall take effect~ the provisions thereof shall control the installation, alteration or repalrlng of plumbing within the corporate limits of the City; provided however, the below stated addition and deletions to the Uniform Plumbing Code, 1991 Edition, are also hereby adopted which addition and deletions, if in conflict with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), shall overrule said UPC; the addition and deletion are stated as follows: (A) Buildings Moved From One location To Another: When a building is moved from one location to another the service entrance shall be inspected and made to conform to the requirements of the current edition of the Uniform Plumbing Code. (B) The Exception under Section 203 - Use Of Copper Tubing, (d), which reads as follows: "Exception: Type M copper tubing may be used for water piping when piping is above ground in, or on, a building or underground outside of structures," is hereby deleted from the Uniform Plumbing Code as it pertains to the City of Meridian. (C) That Section 1004 - Materials, of the 1988 Uniform Plumbing Code, shall remain in effect and full force and any conflict between the provisions of Section 1004 of the 1988 Uniform Plumbing Code and the provisions of the 1991 Uniform Plumbing Code shall be controlled by the Section 1004 of the 1988 Uniform Plumbing Code, which reads as follows: AllornoYll and Counselors "(a) Water pipe and fittings shall be of brass, copper, cast iron, galvanized malleable lron, galvanized wrought iron, galvanized steel or other approved materials. Asbestos-cement, CPVC, PB, PE, or PVC water pipe manufactured to recognized standards may be used for cold water distribution systems outside a building. CPVC and PB water pipe and tubing may be used for hot and cold water distribution systems within a building. (b) Cast iron fittings up to and including two (2) inches (50.8mm) in size, when used in connection with potable water piping shall be galvanized. (c) All malleable iron water fittings shall be galvanized. (d) Piping and tubing \'lhich has previously been used for any purpose other than for potable water systems shall not be used. (e) Approved plastic materials may be used in water service piping, provided that where metal water service piping is used for electrical grounding purposes, replacement piping therefore shall be of like materials. (f) Solder shall conform to the requirements of Section 802(d). EXCEPTION: Where a grounding system, acceptable to the Administrative Authority is installed, inspected and approved, metallic pipe may be replaced with non-metallic pipe. SECTION 3: EFFECTIVE DATE: WHEREAS, there is an emergency therefore, which emergency is hereby declared to exist, this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication according to law.
