To whom it may concern,
I was skeptical about a charter school in general, but I gave Pathways a try. The
pandemic had hit and Naiomi was really struggling at Skyview High. All teachers have
their own way of teaching but when school closed for a whole year and the kids
returned it wasn't the same. We then went to a different online school by the name of
NOVA and that was not helpful. I looked into Pathways and they still required the kids to
come in at least for a few hours to meet with their teacher and talk about life, school,
and how to stay on track. I then noticed that the one-on-one communication Naiomi was
receiving helped. It wasn't just that one hour check in it was also texting, emailing, and
phone calls. Keeping in touch but also keeping the student accountable for working on
their assignments. The summer of 2021 1 enrolled my youngest daughter Izabella and
her grades improved so much more that I knew this was the best way to go.
My daughters have continued to thrive with the teachers, counselor, and principal
at Pathways. The one-on-one communication with the students lets them know that the
door is always open. Where one subject they can be struggling with and it's ok to say
something. There is no stupid question and help is everywhere. The student just needs
to ask or a parent can reach out to anyone at Pathways and someone is there to give all
resources available. Also Pathways chooses students to go on educational trips.
Izabella was chosen to go to Washington DC and she had such an amazing time. No
phones was hard for me as a mother. I need to know that my daughter is safe, but I had
communication with the principal the whole time. Izabella came home talking about all
the places they went and how they experienced where Martin Luther King Jr once stood
to give his "I have a Dream" speech, Arlington Cemetery, the city itself, and so much
more. It was an experience that she can carry with her for the rest of her life.
The communication is never ending. There are resources within the teacher and
they go above and beyond not only for the students but for us parents. I have always
known as a parent I have to do my job at home just as well as my child's teacher does
in the classroom, but these men and women at Pathways are not only teachers, they
are advocates for our children.
Izabella was very shy in public school, but Pathways opened her up to know that
her style and personality is different but that's ok. She is Izabella!! She enjoys the small
classes and getting to know others. Naiomi has had some issues but Nikki has been
encouraging and motivating her. Her skills have improved and she will finish the year
strong.
This school has been life changing for both my daughters.
