SUBJECT: Notice of Hearing
Dear Mr. Berg:
We are in receipt of the Notice of Hearing, pertaining to the property located at the northeast corner of
Venture Street and East Fairview Avenue.
Please be advised that we live, and own, the property located at 4260 Venture Place and strongly
protest the rezoning as:
There are many children in the neighborhood and the increased traffic due to a potential
commercial retail operation will place them at risk.
There is already a large retail complex going in on Fairview and Cloverdale where another
right hand turn lane is scheduled to be added, making it even harder to turn left onto Fairview.
The intersection at Venture Street and Fairview is already a problem intersection. Have you
looked at the ACRD statistics for this intersection? The ACRD has already had to install
extended curb dividers to keep Wal-Mart traffic from driving-down the center lane and blocking
access onto Venture Street, and now even more traffic is using this intersection with the
added entrance for the new 100 plus homes subdivision located directly across the street from
Venture Street. Adding more traffic at this intersection with the new zoning is nothing short of
a disaster waiting to happen.
We, as do many others in the neighborhood, own livestock which will be endangered due to a
retail-operation, especially opening it up to where many~ars will use the two cul-de-sacs-for
turn-a rounds. There has already been increased traffic throughout the neighborhood. This is
a potential risk, and someone from the retail portion sooner or later will start to complain about
the smell.
Meridian continues to allow these projects to go on for an increased tax base, and thus, we live with
the greatest variation of land use within Meridian. Where else can you find light industrial next to a
school, a strip mall next to a cemetery, a farmer's field where hunters can be heard shooting next to
soccer fields and traffic to rival Milwaukee and Franklin/Fairview.
What are you thinking? Regarding this area, there has been no planning or logic to the zoning
decisions. Have you recently been on Fairview and Eagle or Fairview and Cloverdale lately? W e
urge you to please carefully consider this re-zoning request.
Thank you for hearing our concerns.
Sincerely,
Linda Duer and Tom Sn r
