Donnell RECEIVED SEP 2 7 2002 September 23, 2002 City of Meridian 33 East Idaho Meridian, Idaho 83642 City Of Meridian City Clerk Office Dear Planners: The Meridian School District has experienced phenomenal student growth the last ten years. The high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools throughout the district are operating over capacity. Approval ofBridlZetower CrossinlZ East Subdivision will have a significant impact on school enrollments at Ponderosa Elementary. EalZle Middle. and EalZle Hilili School. Please note that the proposed development does ncontain provisions for an elementary school. We are desirous to lend approval recommendations for developments that recognize the importance of schools and are supportive of our needs to acquire future school sites. Weare uncertain when the elementary school will be constructed, however, as growth continues within the North Meridian Planning Area we will continually monitor our site inventory and boundary adjustments to meet the communities need for new schools. We can predict that these homes, when completed, will house eighteen (18) elementary aged children, fifteen (15) middle school aged children, and thirteen (13) senior high aged students. Residents cannot be assured of attending the neighborhood school, as it may be necessary to bus students to other schools across the district. School capacity is addressed in Idaho Code 67-6508. The Meridian School District is currently operating beyond capacity. Future development will continue to have an impact on the district's capacity. However, with the passage of the General Obligation Bond on September 17''' a new middle school and three elementary schools will soon be under construction. If you have any questions, please contact me at 855-4500. Sincerely, ~~~r Supervisor of Facilities and Construction ----
