WILLIAM W. BRIGGS, P.E. September 10, 1965 /# Subject: • oY w Subject: Inspection of Manholes in the East Side Park Subdivision On August 31, 1965, the manholes and sewer lines as constructed by the Crane Excavating Company for the Subdivision Owner were inspected, and the condition of the system is as follows: The surface of the floors in all the manholes was rough and uneven. The drain channels through the floors of the man- holes were also rough and uneven. The rim of the manhole in East Fifth Street was not crowned correctly, which will not blend with the finish surface of the road. Care was not taken by the spreading of surface gravel on the streets in the subdivision, thereby allowing gravel and dirt to enter the manholes. The infiltration was measured at the East Side Park Lift Station as approximately two gallons per minute. It is impossible to pinpoint where the water is entering the system since each manhole indicated running or standing water. This ground water infiltration is entering the lines through the joints or at the ends of the two stub lines, which are supposed to be plugged. The grade of the lines was not checked by field surveys but appeared to be unsatisfactory. Standing water in the manhole in Carlton Avenue would indicate a high or low spot in the sewer line, or possibly an obstruction in the line. To remedy the above conditions, the floors and drain channels through OFFICE ALSO AT 6211/2 MAIN STREET, BOISE, IDAHO, 83702 - TELEPHONE 344-0240 =JOHNSON, UNDERYoFIER & BRIGGS - eons.ufEfn9 fnginsszs— 1022 TWELFTH AVENUE SOUTH — NAMPA, IDAHO, 83651 Mr. Herold J. The infiltration should also be located as to where it enters the system and then necessary procedures taken to seal the pipe or joints so as to prevent further infiltrations. Also "lamp testing", field levels, cleaning, or whatever other action is necessary needs to be done to correct the apparent flow line discrepancy.
