Suite 202 Meridian, ID 83642 Project: Meridian Park & Ride Lot Job #: CM -0100(148) Re: Installation of (5) Trees Dear Brad: There has been some discussion between ACHD and the City of Meridian about the number of trees that were installed on this project. ACHD understands that the City of Meridian is not satisfied due to the fact that no trees were installed in the parking lot islands or along the drainage canal. The City of Meridian made references that this was agreed to in earlier discussions and is part of the Conditional Use Permit. ACHD is quite concerned with this request and contacted our consultant (John Sharp @ Sharp and Smith) to see if these requests might have been overlooked per the earlier discussions with the City of Meridian and should have been incorporated on the construction plans. John Sharp had attended the Meridian Planning and Zoning meetings on Feb. 18, 2000, May 19, 2000 and June 12, 2000 (please see attached letters). The landscape pians wer scat io the City of VI %Aiu„ or; Nov. 27, 2000 and Sharp & Smith received no comments back from those plans. In the Nov. 27, 2000 letter it states, "As we discussed at the City Council meeting the trees have been omitted due to the concern for security". ACHD proceeded to construct the parking lot per the construction plans. In the constructing of this parking lot the (5) trees could not be installed on the west side of the parking lot along the drainage ditch as they would be directly over a sewer line. A couple of alternate locations for planting these trees were considered. 1) It was considered that these (5) trees be planted in the sloped embankment between the canal and the parking lot. It was felt that this location would not work, as not enough room is available. 2) Another option is to move the (5) trees to the other side of the drainage ditch. ACHD's arborist is being contacted to see if the trees will survive at this location if the irrigation system was extended to assure that they would get enough water. ACHD will search out all possible areas to find a suitable location to plant these (5) trees in the area along the outside perimeter of the parking lot. If you have any questions, feel free to call.
