A survey of the homeowners in Country Terrace Subdivision indicated that they are
overwhelmingly opposed to the conditional use permit requested by ACHD for a park and
ride lot for 100 vehicles located on 6.36 acres at the corner of Meridian Road and Overland
Road with access only from Overland Road for the following reasons:
Overland Road is an archaic two lane road that can hardly handle the present traffic and is
total gridlock during the morning and evening rush hours, at which time the lot will be
used, making both entry and exit from the lot virtually impossibile.
The city council has given its approval for a large complex at the corner of Overland and
Locust Grove Roads which when completed prior to year 2004, the year improvements are
scheduled on Overland Road, is going to make Overland a total gridlock around the clock.
A new high school is planned in the immediate future adding several hundred more
vehicles morning, noon, and afternoon which will add more gridlock.
Western Equipment is building a truck repair facility adding more heavy equipment to a
road that cannot handle the present traffic.
A large storage facility is planned on Overland Road adding even more vehicles.
The overpass for Locust Grove and I-84 isn't even on the schedule to help alleviate the
Overland Road traffic problems.
Overland Road is also going to be home to a transport trailer plant which will draw even
more truck traffic.
ACRD knows Overland Road desperately needs a right turn lane for traffic coming from
the east at the corner of Overland and Meridian Roads and refuses to install one to ease
and move the present traffic going into Meridian. This would allow the traffic to move out
of the way and make it possible to enter or exit the parking lot at the time it will be used.
Homeowners in our subdivision now have trouble entering Overland and with everything
planned it will become even more of a problem.
Another 100 vehicles will only compound the problem. Another location not having the
traffic problems on Overland is the place a park and ride lot should be located.
