HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-11-21 Kim Coey City Council Members,
I appreciate the opportunity to address you today regarding the significant implications associated with
the proposed Tanner Creek Subdivision (H-2022-0048) and 1-84 and Meridian CPAM (H-2021-0099)
projects. In the interest of fostering a comprehensive understanding of the matter at hand, I wish to
draw attention to specific concerns, with a particular emphasis on the potential ramifications for the
Meridian Rd and the Meridian/Waltman intersection and the broader apprehensions surrounding the
impact on our community's gateway to the city and quality of life.
First and foremost, The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has disapproved any modifications to the
existing configuration of the Waltman and Meridian Intersection. This decision sets the stage for a critical
examination of the forthcoming Tanner Creek and Hawkins projects.
According to the Traffic Impact Study (TIS) associated with these developments, an anticipated surge of
over 13,000 vehicles per day is predicted. This anticipated influx raises immediate and substantive
concerns, particularly during peak traffic periods. The limitations set by ACHD and the anticipated
increase in vehicular traffic suggest significant challenges ahead for the Waltman and Meridian
intersection. It is crucial to highlight that these challenges encompass heightened traffic congestion and
failure levels of service, particularly during peak hours, ultimately culminating in what can be
characterized as an untenable traffic scenario.
The ramifications extend beyond the inconvenience of congested roadways. Our community's overall
well-being and interconnectedness face substantial impact. The escalating concerns regarding traffic
pose a threat to the accessibility and efficiency of the fundamental infrastructure that serves as the
gateway to our community. Furthermore, the potential decline in our quality of life is a significant
consideration, highlighting the necessity for united involvement in addressing this matter.
This development, in my opinion, is not considered smart or sustainable growth, and I strongly believe
it's not the right fit for our beautiful city, especially right at its gateway. The intersection in question is
already landlocked, with no room for expansion or improvements. The prospect of increased traffic
poses a significant concern, and it's clear that the quality of life in our community could be adversely
affected if these applications are approved. I earnestly request that both of these applications not be
approved, considering the potential negative impact on our city and its residents.
Thank you,
Kim Coey
