The Ada County Highway District's refusal to consider modification proposals for the Waltman and Meridian Intersection, coupled with the expected surge of over 13,000 additional vehicles daily from the Tanner Creek and Hawkins developments, paints a daunting picture. The existing congestion and failing service levels at the intersection underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable solution to tackle the impending traffic challenges. Equally troubling is the potential strain on our educational system. The West Ada County District's growth projections estimate 2,172 new homes within the next 1 to 3 years, bringing approximately 1,735 students to our area.Meridian Middle School faces an overwhelming challenge, with projections exceeding capacity by 213 students. The Tanner Creek Subdivision, introducing an additional 328 students, exacerbates the strain on our schools. These figures highlight a looming crisis in our educational resources that requires immediate attention. Moreover, the proposed developments diverge from the City of Meridian's Comprehensive Plan and the Future Land Use Map(FLUM),intended for mixed-use community development. The envisioned Hawkins and Tanner Creek projects fails to align with the comprehensive plan and FLUM,jeopardizing the character, quality of life, and sustainability of our community. As conscientious citizens, let us unite in urging a denial of these developments to secure a future that respects our shared values, safeguards the well-being of our children, and fosters a vibrant,mixed- use community. It's going to cause residents to hate driving and living in Meridian. The Tanner Creek development will over fill capacity at Peregrine Elementary School. If these developments pass, the Meridian City Council will be responsible for the worst intersection and traffic issues in Idaho for years to come. Please deny the request for higher density housing. All this does is put more money in the pockets of the developer at the expense of quality of life for the eventual tenants and neighbors due to increased traffic, noise and other consequences of jamming people together in small spaces. Ten Mile is jammed with traffic and roars with noise. Cherry is getting worse, too.
