Concerning the Tanner Creek Subdivision (H-2022-0048), I would like to express considerable-
reservations about its potential impact on the quality of life in our community and the future well-being
and education of our children.According to estimates derived from the West Ada County District's
formula for student growth, the anticipated surge in new homes from various developments along Ten
Mile is poised to introduce more than 2,172 residences within the next 1 to 3 years, bringing
approximately 1,735 students to the area during that span. Projections indicate that 400 of these 1,735
students are expected to enroll in Meridian Middle School, resulting in an overflow of 213 students
beyond the school's capacity.
Completion of the Tanner Creek Subdivision is foreseen to introduce approximately 328 more students
to our area, with 75 projected to enroll in Meridian Middle School, intensifying the pressure on our
educational institutions. That's over 425 new students at Meridian Middle School in 1-3 years! Students
would undoubtedly strain the school well beyond its limits. While this issue of overcrowding is not
solely attributed to development, it is preventable, and I implore you to consider the consequences for
our community's educational resources. Can you imagine the chaos?
Moreover, the proposed development contradicts the current land zoning for commercial use and the
city's future zoning map, which designates it for mixed-use community development rather than high-
density residential use. I firmly believe that this land is better suited for low-density mixed-use,
encompassing single-family homes with low-density offices or recreational areas,to alleviate the strain
on our schools. The inclusion of high-density apartments in this area is highly inappropriate, especially
for this location.
In conclusion, the proposed plan deviates from the City of Meridian's Comprehensive Plan, posing a
threat to our community's character, quality of life, and sustainability. Overcrowding in schools and
jeopardizing the education of our children stand in opposition to the values and vision we hold for our
community's future. Considering these concerns, I respectfully urge you to reject approval for both
proposed developments. Our community deserves a future that aligns with our shared values and
ensures the well-being and education of our children.
Thank you,
