Subject: Request to Deny Applications for H-2022-0048 and H-2021-0099 CITE'CLERKS OFFI ,q
To Whom it May Concern:
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed Tanner
Creek and Hawkins developments within our community. As a concerned citizen invested in the well-
being and sustainable growth of our city, I urge the City Council to carefully consider the adverse impacts
these developments will have on our already congested roadways and infrastructure.
The map attached to Page 2 from Compass Idaho Treasure Valley Annual Congestion Management
System Report, 2022 illustrates the Top 10 Congested Network Segments in Ada County during Peak
Periods in 2022 serves as a clear indication of the dire state of our transportation system. 1-84/Meridian;
currently the most congested segment, and the stretch from Franklin Road to the 1-84'Interchange on
Meridian Rd at number 7 highlight the critical need for a strategic and thoughtful approach to
development in these areas.
Meridian Rd has now surpassed Eagle Rd in terms of congestion levels in Ada County. It is perplexing that
we are even contemplating adding over 13,000 vehicles per day to the already worst-congested road
segments in our county. Such a proposition is not only impractical but also counterproductive to the
well-being of our community.
The argument for the Linder Overpass providing relief is questionable at best, especially since there is no
access to the highway. History has demonstrated that previous attempts at relief, such as the
implementation of the Ten Mile exit and modifications to Meridian Rd/Main Rd, yielded only
temporary relief rather than a lasting solution. The potential short-term relief the Linder Overpass
might bring does not justify the long-term consequences of increased congestion and strain on our
infrastructure.
The negative impacts on the daily lives of our citizens are undeniable. The proposed traffic flow from
Hawkins, even with the Linder Overpass, would introduce an unsustainable burden on our already
inadequate infrastructure.
The Linder Overpass, while potentially providing minimal relief, does not address the broader issue at
hand. Adding a significant number of daily trips, including over 950 cars per hour during peak hours,to
the most congested area in Ada County is a reckless decision that contradicts the principles of smart
growth.
I implore the City Council to prioritize the well-being of our community and deny both the Tanner Creek
and Hawkins development applications. The infrastructure in this area simply cannot withstand the
influx of traffic that these developments would bring. Let us strive for a more sustainable and
responsible approach to growth that benefits the Gateway to the heart of Meridian and preserves the
livelihood of our citizens.
Thank you for our time and consi gyration.
Sincerely, , ( v2
