The City of Meridian
Meridian City Council
Mr. Mayor:
RE:Klein Home Addition H-2023-0037
I support the conditional use permit for the Klein family. I do not want any part of my testimony to
cause any delay in the Klein family's permit. Please allow this family with children to provide housing for
their children without undue administrative delay.
Affordable housing is on everyone's minds these days, because there is very little affordable housing in
Treasure Valley and Meridian. Everyone wants to live in a neighborhood that has good schools, well
maintained public roads, sidewalks and city services. Although, this policy/practice/procedure of
requiring a two-car garage is neutral,on its face;there may be substantial disparate impact implications
under the Fair Housing Act.
Because the City of Meridian is dedicated to and required to provide housing and related services that
are compliant with,The Fair Housing Act(as amended)(Title VIII of the 1968 Civil Rights Act), I formally
request, as a concerned citizen of the City of Meridian, that this body, conduct a disparate impact
assessment of this policy on the following protected classes, familial status, race, national origin and
disability. I believe the city should immediately remedy any potential violations of the Act.
The Klein family home,as well as my home, are in an urban renewal district. Our community is very
diverse. Our roads and sidewalks are inaccessible to families with children and people with disabilities.
Because the City of Meridian is dedicated to and required to provide housing and related services that
are compliant with,The Fair Housing Act(as amended)(Title VIII of the 1968 Civil Rights Act),I formally
request,as a concerned citizen of the City of Meridian and a protected person under the FHAA act, that
this body, conduct a disparate impact assessment of this policy/districting on the following protected
classes, familial status, race, national origin and disability. I believe the city should immediately remedy
any potential violations of the Act.
