Good evening,
We are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed multifamily housing at Orchard Park. Specifically,
three-story condos (2-story with a one-story garage underneath) would produce far too much density in the proposed
footprint in an area of Meridian that is already very dense. The five-story apartment complex proposed fits nowhere
within Meridian, much less at Orchard Park. A similar proposal was turned down at the Village in Meridian. How could
it possibly be approved here? Significantly, there is ample multifamily housing within Meridian, Eagle, and other
surrounding areas.
The developer has gone on record to claim that this high-density housing is needed to supply workers for restaurants
and light retail at Orchard Park. This defies logic, as Paramount is a family community. Plenty of kids at Rocky would
love to have a job right outside the neighborhood. The developer also stated that multifamily housing was needed for
lower income individuals who do not have vehicles. This would then necessitate mass transit, which would irrevocably
alter the character of not only this immediate area but the entire region of Meridian and Eagle.
The developer promises one thing and then delivers another. One one hand he speaks of a fancy glass Barn with
boutiques and an indoor surf pool. On the other hand, he delivers fast food restaurants and repeatedly requests high-
density multifamily housing. His ongoing game is wearisome but we remain resolved to fight for the beautiful family-
friendly environment that so many enjoy.
We urge the city to not approve this developer’s request and to remain steadfast in its responsibility to ensure the
Orchard Park development is done right. Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Daniel and Anu Briggs
