To Whom it may concern:
I am writing against the 4th St bookstore/coffee shop/bar that is on the agenda for June 27th. Also listed as Pearl House
Collective.
It is in the middle of a residential area & I know they are asking for a rezone -
I’m not against an office or even just a bookstore but when adding the events that she has planned & the beer/ wine &
50 person occupancy it is not a good fit in this area.
I’ve lived in Meridian 45 yrs & downtown has several bars & restaurants & it is fun to go to downtown & play but 4th
street is residential & not meant for beverage & high retail.
This house is a very small lot- half of most in the area & only 800 sq feet with a 780 sq ft back yard & 2 parking
spaces. With even only 20 people parking would be a huge issue in this area as most of these older houses dont have
garages & need to park in front of their homes. Her customers will be parking in our parking areas in front of our
homes. She mentioned in the last meeting that the churches & Masonic lodge would let her customers park in their
spots. I have called
both churches & they each only have about 6 parking spots & dont have spaces available for her customers. Also the
Masonic lodge has no parking after 6 & is not offering her spots. Parking will be a huge
issue! I’ve attached some pictures of the parking areas about 3 blocks away & there is no public parking.
She has mentioned in our meetings that beer & wine would be her main income & that she would be doing outdoor
open mic nights & she stated that she wanted it to be like some bookstores in Huston where she is from. But with
parking & this kind of traffic it definitely wouldn’t be a safe area in the residential area plus the noise at night with open
mic would really bother the neighbors with several kids only 15 ft away. I hate to see Meridian turn into Texas!
This house is not in downtown Meridian & not even on Pine Street. It is 4 blocks from downtown meridian, & fully in a
residential neighborhood & not the right spot for this type of high traffic retail.
I’ve also attached pictures of how disrespectful they are of the neighbors. The last meeting a commissioner said they
felt that she would probably be respectful of the neighbors but I’ve attached some pictures of how disrespectful she has
been to the neighbors- I dont see how her care for the neighbors will change. She’s stated plans for food trucks & large
events on her social media & I was told that we all would just need to call code enforcement when she doesnt follow
city codes. I feel like a better option would be to keep her little house residential or even light commercial as an office
but definitely not beverages & high retail & outdoor music or mic nights!
I will also bring a petition of several neighbors that are opposing this rezone.
I’ve linked a video that shows how far from downtown Meridian it is
