Dear Meridian Council
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Amanda Rockrohr, and I am writing to express my
concerns and bring attention to an important matter that affects our community. As an Idaho native, who went
to Mountain View High School. Meridian, Idaho has been a part of my upbringing. I have adored the small town
feeling of our community for many years, but know that a part of growth as a community is to expand our
culture awareness and diversify our thoughts.
One way a community can do that is to bring on an independent bookstore that can help curate
thoughts, ideas, and voices from around the world. Whenever I would go visit a larger city, I would always stop
by a local independent bookstore and see what selection they have, but also get a feeling for the culture of that
community. Here are a few reasons I would like to support Pearl House Collective as an independent
bookstore in Meridian, Idaho.
1. Independent bookstores can become a community hub for building connections, such as book clubs,
literary events, and community events. The opportunity to create a space for the community to have
meaningful interactions and discussions.
2. Independent bookstores are run by individuals who are aware of the community's needs and values
because they live there. Larger bookstores miss out on the unique connection the curator has to the
community. This allows the curator to bring on books that can serve the community and expand their
experience.
3. Independent bookstores offer the tangible and immersive experience of books. As we live in a more
digitized world, this tactile experience gets less and less. This is an opportunity to continue to keep
books in people’s hands and expand their literacy experience.
As a book lover and community member, I would like to show my support in advocating for the bookstore. I
appreciate your time in reading this letter and hope it brings a valuable perspective to your discussion and
decision.
