Meridian Planning and Zoning – City Council,

I joined both your December and January meetings and each time learned that there was a request for continuance and
th
therefore I couldn’t provide my comments. I’m not certain whether I’ll be able to join you on February 16 so I’m
writing to you with my comments on the hearing for Meridian OZ Apartments CUP, MDA H-2022-0073.
In my comments, I am representing Intermountain Wood Products, a hardwood distribution company that operates out
of 220 S Adkins Way and 300 S Adkins Way which is a few properties to the south of the property that is applying for the
permit(s).
Our concern with the permit to build a 60-unit dwelling is three fold.
1) Will the Idaho Department of Transportation permit egress from the proposed multi dwelling property at 1475 E
Franklin? The egress onto either Franklin or S Locust Grove, from the property, is so close to the intersection of
Franklin Rd and Locust Grove Rd that it will cause traffic and safety concerns.
2) Intermountain Wood operates several tractor trailers and trucks that come and go from our distribution center
multiple times per day. Putting multi dwelling residential egress on either road can cause traffic and safety
concerns. Any proposals to share an egress would be too high risk.
3) Intermountain Wood has had instances in the past in which adolescent youth have come from residential
neighborhoods onto Intermountain Wood’s property during the evenings or weekends. In one such occasion
the group broke inside our semi – trailer and skateboarded up and down the deck. We were very concerned
with both the safety and the trespassing. Putting a multi dwelling unit close to light industrial businesses could
increase the chance of such incidents being repeated.
For these reasons, we would request that the multi-dwelling permit(s) not be granted.

Can you please respond that you are in receipt of this written comment and that it will be included in the upcoming
public hearing on February 16th. Please let me know if I need to do anything else to have this comment read and heard
by the council.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this public hearing.
Best Regards, Travis Perrin
