Hello Mayor and City Council of Meridian,
I am writing this as a frightened mom. I have an almost 15 years old daughter, who goes to Owyhee High School and is
currently learning to drive. It becomes so dangerous because she has to be so aggressive turning onto McMillan due to
the heavy traffic. Our own surface street within the community, is wider than McMillan.
First of all, I’ve never seen a major high school anywhere that has ONLY one lane in all directions going by it. Both east
and west via McMillian and Ustick, it’s only one lane in each direction. North and Sound in front of the school, it’s only
one lane each way without even a turning lane. It’s obvious to anyone paying attention that not enough planning is
going into these school plans or the nearby roads. But you can change that, you can decide that now is the time to start
doing better and listening to your constituents who deal with traffic every day.
The safety issues are everywhere. Now, we can see the land around Owyhee High School is developing with MORE
houses & even apartments (unbelievable for that area) coming in the near future. Additionally, another major school,
Cole Valley, a private school, is upcoming on McMillan near Owyhee too.
As you probably know, a Meridian high schooler just died from a car accident this month. Tragedy happens, especially
with POOR planning. The mayor and city council should come to how congested McMillan on a daily basis, especially at
school hours in the morning and rush hour times to see what your residents experience.
Do you know that parents and high schoolers drive all the way from the Settlers Park are to Owyhee High School
because of the rezoning for the schools, and there isn't any other way to go other than McMillian and Ustick?
Putting our kids in danger with POOR planning, bringing in way too much traffic by jamming this application and even
the McDermott Village project with more apartment buildings on McMillan is very irresponsible and short sighted.
Please Stop this Build on McMillian & Ten Miles.

Sincerely,
Lisha Elam
