Meridian City Council Members and Honorable Mayor,
My wife and I have been residents of Bridgetower West since March of 2017. We love living in this tight-knit
community. We also loved the open space of the area with views of the beautiful Owahee mountain range and the
mountains to the East. As our community continued to grow we lost our view of the Owahee range, but could still enjoy
seeing the Bogus Basin area from our back patio. We also appreciated the lack of heavy traffic on our local, rural roads.
We are surrounded by other communities composed of single-family dwellings of one or two-story heights which still
allow us to see the horizon to the East. In our opinion, to place a multi-family development smack dab in the middle of a
community of single-family dwellings is totally inappropriate to the nature and aesthetic composition of this area. There
are other locations more suitable to the development that is being proposed, for instance, south of Franklin on Ten
Mile. Another consideration is the schools in this area are at capacity already. Where will the incoming children attend
school? Furthermore, to add another 400 or so cars onto rural roads that aren’t scheduled to be expanded for another
10 years will cause an unsafe traffic nightmare. The infrastructure is not in place to handle it! Another issue is the
availability of irrigation water once there is a higher demand. We already have issues with the pumps not being able to
handle the demand. Lastly, we understand the need to provide affordable housing and transitional housing, and there is
plenty of land available to accommodate that where the infrastructure is already in place to handle the additional traffic.
It seems to us that the property should be re-zoned to a level that makes sense in view of the issues that arise from an
R-15 designation. Thank you for your consideration. I will not be making any public comments at the meeting.
Repectfully,
Jim and Ruth Mangrum
