Dear City Council members, After the Planning Commission voted to reject the development of apartments in the Bridgetower West area by Walmart September 1st, it gave us an enormous amount of relief to our community. Not only to our particular area, but also to surrounding neighborhoods who fight daily with the traffic on McMillan and Ten Mile. As stated previously, we do not want more traffic on Gondola and San Vito because these streets are the ones that provide the community’s children access to Park View Elementary School. We do not want this development to infringe on our property values. I am not going to forget to mention how Park View Elementary is at FULL capacity and not one family wants the ratio of teacher/child to increase! Nor do any of us want our safety jeopardized by cut-through traffic trying to get to Black Cat and Chinden by avoiding McMillan, known for horrible traffic throughout the day! The infrastructure is lacking in many, many areas which is concerning for proper growth in Meridian. This includes emergency vehicles response time due to heavy traffic, available doctors to make it possible to get in for appointments, veterinarians wait time for appointments is already at least a month, general grooming services (hair, nails, massage, physical therapy) are busier than usual, water usage within the drought months should not be ignored, parking capacity at this proposed complex isn’t enough, and more police surveillance will be required. We can’t even get the ACHD to re-paint the crosswalk in front of the Park View Elementary school, this being the ONLY crosswalk available there for pedestrians! There is no safe way for pedestrians to cross McMillan and walk down San Vito to Gondola to reach the elementary school. I haven’t even mentioned the nightmare drive getting high schoolers to Owyhee H.S. from Bridgetower West! We could list many other important issues, but these will most certainly be raised by our citizens of Meridian at the upcoming November 15 meeting. We thank you for listening and value what services you provide for the beautiful City of Meridian. I am also speaking for our wonderful wild life that needs open fields to survive.
