I am greatly opposed to this housing development project!
An entire subdivision-sized area of rental homes, owned and operated by corporations, is not in the
best interests of this community. There is one reason and one reason only that a corporation wants to
build yet another housing area....and that is for their profit. Please don't allow this. Meridian City
leaders talk about how important managing growth is to them. The growth explosion I've seen over
the past 10 years is just dismaying. Meridian City leaders talk about our quality of life. Well, we used
to have a great quality of life, but it is rapidly declining. Rental units upon rental units go up. Homes
once owned by local families are now being snapped up by out of state investors, who don't generally
care about maintaining their property. Massive rental units have mushroomed unattractively in the
past 5-8 years. I've seen multiple complexes of hundreds of apartments rise one after another within
just a few miles of where I live. Traffic has accordingly increased, and it has become an unfortunate
routine to stay off the streets in the morning and also between 3:30 and 7:00 to avoid half-mile long
traffic lines on most roads. Going for pleasant walks and bike rides directly from my home is no longer
possible. And that brings up the next point...
Traffic will only increase if this projected development is allowed. Nearby neighborhoods will be
negatively impacted, and already congested streets near Victory and Meridian Roads will only become
more so.
Infrastructure! Local school districts are already at or above capacity. We lack teachers, bus drivers,
police, fire and other essential community support.
We live in a mountain desert climate. Water use cannot continue to be successfully managed with this
uninhibited high level of growth.
This property has been an open space for decades, and it is home to several dozen species of birds. Can
we not find a better, more beautiful use for this property that will truly increase our quality of life?
Please, don't sell our community to the highest bidders.
