Re: CUP H-2002-0047
To Whom It May Concern:
Thank you for the opportunity to have a voice in the development of our city. My family and I are grateful to be a part of
the larger Meridian community and understand you have the difficult but rewarding task of managing our city's growth and
development.
I am writing out of concern for the current plans for CUP H-2002-0047 as shared by the developer.
1. Surrounding infrastructure is not suited to sustain the size of the proposed development.
a. Irrigation canals along McMillian prevent widening of the road to accommodate the heavy increases
in vehicle volume this project will add.
b. Relatedly, the intersection of McMillian and San Vito is currently unmarked and unregulated by any
crosswalks or traffic lights. In its current state, it is risky for families attempting to cross the street from
Bridgetower West (south of McMillan) to San Vito, on their trek to use the community pool, basketball
court, etc. The developer said there are no plans to remediate this as part of their project.
c. A higher resident project approved here, coupled with the Jamestown project underway and others to
follow, will put strain on already challenging water rights issues.
2. The layout of the design is impractical for everyday life of existing residents in the surrounding neighborhoods and
future residents who will live in the structures to be built on this site.
a. Location of the proposed parking lot is facing San Vito. Practically speaking, it would seem more
logical to flip the plan and direct future traffic along the west and north sides of Walmart, where existing
infrastructure could link to Ten Mile.
i. This would minimize impacts to existing residents along San Vito.
b. Further, taller structures would align better with existing architecture if built to the west side of
Walmart.
Respectfully,
Nic Tomei
